However, when you look at your teeth, are they as white as you would like? If your teeth are not gorgeously white, there are some things you can do to help whiten your teeth.

What Causes Your Teeth to Become Discolored?

Your teeth change color for several reasons. First, if you use tobacco, wine, or caffeine, your teeth can change colors. Both tobacco and caffeine can cause your teeth to look yellow or brown. Wine or berries can cause your teeth to look purple. The best way to prevent your teeth from becoming discolored is to brush your teeth immediately after you smoke, vape, chew, or drink wine.

Are There Other Ways Your Teeth Can Look Discolored?

If you have tooth decay, one of the primary ways you can tell that you have cavities is because your teeth may look blue or gray. If you have a small cavity, you may only notice a spot of gray or blue discoloration on one of your teeth. However, if your tooth has a large cavity, your entire tooth may look gray or blue.

Sometimes, medications can also cause discoloration of your teeth. For example, people with cancer who are undergoing chemotherapy may notice their teeth look gray or blue. Also, there are strong antibiotics that can cause tooth discoloration if you have to take them for an extended period of time. Your teeth can also become gray or blue due to trauma, such as if you are hit in the mouth by an object.
