How to Manage Dental Anxiety Once You Arrive at Our OfficeDid you know that "dentophobia" is a very real condition that plagues millions of people each year? It's true – people are afraid of us!

We understand that dental anxiety is a valid concern, which is why we strive to take the fear and stress out of an appointment at our office. As our patient, you have our assurance that we'll go out of our way to make sure you're comfortable and at ease with us.

If you're struggling with dental anxiety, these tips can help you manage that fear at our office.

Five Tips for Controlling your Dental Anxiety

Whether you had a bad experience as a child or you simply worry that we're going to have to break some bad news to during your exam, we want to assure you that we consider your fears valid but also entirely unnecessary. When you come see us, there's no need to be afraid!

These five useful suggestions can help take some of that fear and stress away from you, however.

•  Talk to us. First and foremost, if you are afraid, express those fears to us. We can work with you to answer any questions that you have to dispel any fear.
•  Bring a friend. You do not have to come see us alone. If you have a support network, by all means, have them tag along! A friend can make you feel less alone during your appointment and relieve some of your trepidation.
•  Try breathing exercises. If you start to hyperventilate, try to calm down with controlled breathing exercises. Studies show that just by managing your breaths, you can calm your heartrate and feel better overall.
•  Listen to some music. Music can help! If the sound of our equipment puts you on edge, by all means, bring your portable music device with you and get lost in your music as we work!
•  Ask about sedation. You are not the first patient who has ever been nervous, so do not be too shy to ask about possible sedation during your appointment. You can sleep through your exam if it helps!

We understand that going to the dentist can be stressful, which is why we go above and beyond to make our patients feel happy and at ease at our office.

If it's been longer than six months since your last exam, please give the compassionate and skilled staff here a call to schedule your next appointment and cleaning at our friendly office!
