Sugar is one of the worst things you can consume when you have a smile you want to keep in the best shape. This is because sugar can be dangerous to the enamel on the teeth. It is what causes those cavities and decay to form. To reduce the amount of decay you see on your teeth or to keep your smile as nice as it can be, we recommend reducing your sugar intake. This not only means snacks and junk food with high sugar contents, but drinks such as sodas that may have a high sugar content in them. How Much Sugar is Too Much? While there are no guidelines on how much sugar is too much sugar in terms of the health of your teeth, it is important to be mindful of how much you consume. The amount of sugar that you consume should be an indicator of whether or not it is the sugar causing the dental problems you're experiencing, or if there are underlying causes. Having the best dental care is important for many reasons. Make sure you're covered when it comes to smiling with comfort and ease. We have you covered. Eating the candy or drinking a soda is okay to do every now and again, but it is not recommended to do every day. Rinsing your mouth out once you have consumed the sugar is also highly recommended by our dentists. This will remove the sugar and bacteria that would otherwise sit there. If you want to get an exam or have a deep cleaning to remove the amount of sugar sticking to the outside of the teeth, give us a call. We can schedule a time to have you come in and have the proper cleaning done on the outside of your teeth. Your smile is just as important to us as it should be to you. |
