Questions to Ask Us at Every Appointment

Posted on 10/25/2019 by Dr. VanBrunt
Questions to Ask Us at Every AppointmentMost have concerns when seeing the dentist. It can be a nerve-wracking experience and you may forget what questions to ask. Our office has combined some of the most important questions for you to ask.

They are personal questions in regards to your oral care. They are also concerning the skills the dentist possesses. They are questions designed to help you be informed at your next dental visit.

Questions to Ask Regarding Your Care

The first question to ask is if your mouth and gums look like they are healthy. This lets you know if your oral routines are up to par or need something to change. Next, ask if you will you be facing any major dental work down the road? Knowing if something major is coming up, it will help you be prepared in the future and financially. Most people think fillings last forever, some last five years others a lifetime.

Find out how long yours last to avoid experiencing losing one in an embarrassing situation. Ask your dentist what he recommends your oral care schedule should look like based on what they see. Lastly, ask if there is anything they are concerned about that you should bring up with your doctor.

Questions About Your Dental Office and Staff

Now that we have covered you personally, it's important to get to know your office and dentist better. Ask what their specialty is, not all dentists specialize in the same area of oral health. Follow up by asking if they are board-certified in that specialty. Being board certified means they have shown mastery in the knowledge and skills in a specific area.

Find out how many times they usually perform the procedure you are needing. A root canal and apicectomy are similar but different. Your dentist may practice tons of root canals yet very few apicectomies. It may be better off performed by someone with more practice.

Our office hopes these questions can help you gain a better understanding of your oral health and dental office experience. An old Elementary School saying that is spot-on if you have dental-related questions, it goes, “The only dumb question is the one you don't ask.” Our office is transparent and experienced for any of your questions. We are always happy to take on new patients. If you are in the market for another dental office or just want a second opinion on a procedure, don't hesitate to contact us.
