What is a Dental Implant?

What to Expect with the Implant Procedure
After we have determined you to be a suitable candidate for dental implants, we can establish a proper treatment plan.
Before the procedure, we use a local anesthetic to numb the area. In certain circumstances, we may use a form of sedation to reduce discomfort. Corbyn VanBrunt, DDS will remove any problematic teeth and prepare your gums for surgery. An incision will be made and a small hole will be drilled into your jaw to provide space for the implant. After the implant is placed, we will suture the incision. In certain situations, the abutment can be placed the same day as the implant.
After the Implant Procedure
The healing process can take three to six months. If a bone graft was performed, it might take significantly longer. Once the implant is fused, we will perform the second surgery to expose the implant and place the abutment. After a couple of weeks, we will take an impression and send it to the dental laboratory. There they will fabricate your final restoration. Once they finish, we can schedule another appointment and install the prosthesis. We'll provide an estimate how long the recovery process for implants will take during your first appointment.
Caring for an implant can be quite simple. Brush and floss as you normally would to avoid any oral health issues. Regular check-ups and cleanings can increase the life of your implant. Over time, we may need to repair or replace your restoration. With proper care, your implant can last a lifetime.
